Carbon Fiber Flagpole

Carbon Fiber Flagpole

Carbon Fiber Flagpole
We constructed a carbon fiber flagpole using two layers of carbon fiber braid over a 1 1/2" diameter PVC pipe mandrel.  The braids were applied simultaneously and then impregnated with MAS Low Viscosity Resin and Slow hardener.  The resin was rolled into the braid to insure good penetration and good bonding between braids.  After the initial coat was cured, the pole was sanded and four additional coats of resin were applied, sanding lightly between coats.
After the final coat of resin, three coats of UV stabilized varnish were applied, sanding lightly between coats, finally followed by a two coats of marine wax.
The flagpole is now installed at the end of our dock (see picture).
